Canion, an educational consultant and retired Deputy Superintendent for Longview Independent School District, serves on the Board for the Salvation Army, White Oak Education Foundation, Women in Longview, Margaret's House Hospice, and the Zonta Club of Longview. She is active in the Longview Regional Hospital Women's Advisory Council, and the Longview-Gregg County Retired Teachers. Canion earned her bachelor's degree at Baylor University and a master's degree at Stephen F. Austin State University; she also has pursued post graduate work at the University of Texas and Texas A&M University in Commerce.
